SFM Player 2.6 doesn't work with Silverlight 5

Jan 5, 2012 at 7:25 PM

A few of us have experienced problems with SMF Player running on Silverlight 5 (no problem with 4). See this Issue Tracker for details: http://smf.codeplex.com/workitem/21967

If anyone has been able to make this work (or any other video player in 5) please let me know.

thanks, Tom

It worked on my machine. I had to remove/re-add some references, especially those related to ComponentModel. This includes references that weren't needed in SL4.

I must add that I'm running with a customized SMF, not that most of it should matter, except that I have my own MediaPlugin (which does nothing in fact, it's an empty shell at the moment), derived from ProgressiveDownloadPlugin.

Can you be more specific about your references and what you did to make it work? I've been completely unable to make it work, as have a couple other people. ..thanks, Tom

I am having the same problem with SMF Player and SL5. Please post the solution.

Hi, I've just come across the same issue. It seems you need to reference the following in the SL5 project for the Player to load AND play:

System.ComponentModel.Composition

System.ComponentModel.Composition.Initialization

Already tried that - fixed a different problem but the player still doesn't play video.

I had this issue if I only loaded in the composition assembly. Adding the composition.init' assembly as well, fixed the play issue.

Anyone get video playback to work in SL5?

I addeded references to both:

System.ComponentModel.Composition

System.ComponentModel.Composition.Initialization

and video will still not play.

I gave up on trying to make it work. As far as I can tell there is some bug that must be fixed. For now I'm just using Silverlight 4.

Now I'm struggling with the concept of moving to something that will support the iPad. I rather cut my fingers off than go back to html and javascript programming.

I have this working in SL5 after referencing the 2 assemblies.

Good news! This is fixed with the new Version 2.6.1 update which added SL5 support!
