FYI: Tool to Test Smooth Streaming Server Performance

Jul 20, 2011 at 1:38 AM

For anyone needing to test performance of origin servers or CDN caching, I wanted to post a project I started today just in case anyone is interested (it benchmarks how fast servers are delivering chunks for on-demand streams).

Great, I gave it a quick run and worked perfectly.

Live monitoring would be super, any plans to add it in?

Thanks,

Technically, there's not much difference in the Live Manifests, so it might be worth a try to throw a live manifest in there and see if it works. It just won't re-download the manifest every few seconds to get the new chunks. Which, may actually be the ideal scenario for testing anyway since a test does need to "end" at some point... thoughts?

Hi what action do you take to boost performance of origin servers ?

What caching device / software do you use ?

Can a nginx reverse proxy cache chunks efficiently ?
