Does Silverlight Video Player supports SRT format for Closed Captions?

Yes. We support the W3C standard for closed captioning: Timed Text (DFXP). It's in the documentation.

I did find information about DFXP support. But does SMF or Silverlight runtume supports SRT (see http://www.delphiki.com/websrt/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubRip), which is different format then DFXP

Here is how some browsers support SRT - http://www.annodex.net/~silvia/itext/elephant_no_skin_v2.html

So I was wondering if SMF or Silverlight Runtime supports SRT?

wiserus, sorry but SMF does not currently support SRT. One idea: albiet not the easiest, you might be able to take a look at the the source code for the DFXP implementation and make changes to get it to work with SRT instead.

sathiscs, do you have a public url for the stream that I could try?

Hi,

I have made the SrtMarkerProvider already. PM me with your email and I will send it to you.

Tim, if you interested I can submit it as patch. It's done as a IMarkerProvider for SRT format.

Szymon, this sounds great! If you wouldn't mind emailing me too I'd love to take a look. You should be able to contact me via codeplex by clicking on my name.

Thanks,

Did this addition make it into the framework?

Does anyone here have knowledge about any support for DVB Subtitles? Would that need to be converted to DFXP in the encoder?

Hi

The SRT parser isn't in the framework yet, no.

Well, for DVB subtitles you would need some way of embedding them in the stream, but you could probably do it more like dvb subtitles in a text stream, and then parse it yourself. If the encoder can convert it to DFXP thats a lot easier though.

Would be great to see the SRT patch into SMF release.
